YB - Week 4 Zoom & Workshop Notes

Week 4 Zoom Call & Notes
For week 4's zoom, we followed up from last weeks workshop but this week we were going to use our own photographs from different projects and years to create sequences. I didn't have my 3 key words in mind as my photography has changed over the last few years so in the folder I created for this workshop, I placed both my nature and food photography together and decided to focus on both. After we showed all of our sequences to Ellie to gain some feedback of what we could do in the future and even send new ones to her to gather more feedback.
Below are some of the sequences that I managed to create myself not only in the time Ellie gave us, but when everyone else was talking about theirs as I kept changing the sequences around as I didn't like certain photos or the way they were placed. This workshop allowed me to criticise my own personal and professional work when alongside other imagery whenever possible and really focusing on the details was something I had to get used to as it helped me to know what images work with others.
I decided to then take a look at my food photography images to see if I could bring them together in a sequence whether I thought they would go together initially or not. I first took on board the different flakes, sugars and the pouring of cream and decided to place the three photos together making sure the images from the same shoot were kept apart as I though it would be a distraction to the eye if they were next to each other. I then thought that the crumble image didn't go well with the other two photos so I decided to get rid of the photo and place the mini egg cheesecake and the Victoria sponge together  I thought that the flakes and sugar would go well together and bring some difference to the sequences. Ellie then told me that it would be interesting to take the leaves from the tea towel and then capture a nature image that has leaves in it to bring both of my photography specialisms together.
After showing Ellie all of my sequences, these two are my favourites as they have both surprised me in a good way and that is because the second photograph has the branches at the very top joint together to make one whole photo. Though the images are all different, bringing them together without spaces really made the sequence a lot more interesting than the ones above which all have types of spaces and shapes. I really like the way in which the contrast within each image and having the brightest image in the middle brings your eyes to the sequence and wonder why it is so bright. I do feel as though if they were all the same kind of contrast, they would work a lot better together.
For the second part of this weeks zoom we were put into our usual breakout rooms where we spoke to each tutor about where we are currently with our individual projects. We first spoke to Geriant who gave me some quick notes to look at for my project such as how many pages I should look into as well as looking into inserting images which include the ingredients of the dish I am making and we all felt it was important to do so as it would show the process of the dish itself. Geraint also told me to have another test shoot of a different dish (maybe) ready for them to see next week,

I gave myself some tasks to do before my test shoot (highlighted in pink) which includes creating my powerpoint ready for next weeks formative and there was the task to complete the post of my first test shoot which I have done since the zoom calls. I need to make sure I do some more layout drawings so that I could then create it in Indesign or other software as I still haven't fully decided how I want my book to look like. All the other tutors said roughly the same things such as shooting more which is why my notes aren't as long as usual.
